Another companion bites the dust.....

Hey Family and Friends!!!

How are you guys doing??

You can let me know by writing me at:
Sister Amber North

Well the news of the week is Sister Winn is leaving me tomorrow.  Hence the subject line.  I'll be finishing up training Sister Tincher (I have said Hi to her but that is about it...)  I am looking forward to really meeting her and getting to know her.  It is crazy that Sister Winn will be leaving.  I am staying here in the Gurnee 2nd ward!  WOOT, I really do love it here!  :)

This week of course has been awesome!!  Tuesday was rockin awesome day!  We had appointments pretty much all day and didn't even really have time for dinner (good and bad thing) and this week Wednesday is our busy day.  That is when everyone wanted to have their lessons this week.  So it is cool!! :) It is also because Transfers are Tuesday and we have a Zone Conference on Thursday so we are busy with meetings this week, but it is totally chill.  :)  We love meetings!

Okay, I really don't know what to say and I don't feel like typing.  HAHA but I will do my best!

Sister Winn and I as Twins for the ward
Halloween Party.
We had our ward Halloween Party on Friday!  It was awesome!  Sister Winn and I dressed like twiners!  P**** came!  We were too happy!!!  The B**** Family also came!!  :)  It was a fun night with the ward.

We are Twinners!

Saturday was full of service!  Which was crazy!!  We are ALWAYS trying to do service but because we are Sisters no one EVER takes us up on it.  :(  Its so lame!  BUT we did get to help our neighbor move on Saturday and then got a phone call to help someone else move in!  Hopefully we will get to teach them, its a mom with two daughters who are 20 and 18!  That would be super awesome!!

We had two new investigators this week.  The first one is J**** and Sister Kershaw and I tracted into him when we were together.  Sister Winn and I ran into him this last week while he was mowing his lawn.  We met with him this week and talked about the Restoration and answered his questions.  It was kind of a random lesson but so awesome!  Sister S**** came with us and had some awesome things to add. Bringing Members to lessons is always so great!  So you all should go out with the Missionaries.  YOU are who the investigators can turn to 24/7 and will stay in the area longer than any missionary.

Sister C**** and I
We also taught M**** who we tracted into earlier this transfer.  We have been trying to get a hold of her but she is always busy.  We finally were able to teach her a brief Restoration and she is super sweet!!  We are hopefully meeting with her again this week.  We are calling her tomorrow to confirm.  :D  She has two boys not sure their ages though.

We taught P**** and it went really well.  We asked him what he knew about the fall/creation and he gave the funniest story about it!  It was awesome!!  He learned a ton fro his reading and the lesson went well.  He is a funny guy!

K***** is doing well but hasn't read so that is a bummer.  :(  She is still super awesome and her biggest concern I think is just with her family.  She has gone to YW's every week the past like month though so that is really cool!  It is just one step at a time.
Happy 22nd Birthday Sister Winn

For Sister Winn's birthday I bought her an apple pie and we ate it with I**** and shared a message with her.

Hmm...Oh M****!  We are still teaching her and she has been reading which is awesome!  She keeps going back to her old ways of believing so hopefully she will keep remembering a little bit more each time.

Yeah this week has been good!  It is getting colder Gah!  We are trying to stay warm.

Letters this week!
- Sister M. Burr (I didn't even know she had my address, it made me happy)
- Bishop Lindsay
- Sister Looslie
- Grandma Maxine (Thank YOU for the Stamps!!!!!)
- Karoline and the kidos!

I am hoping to have mail tomorrow at Transfers!!  :D  Thank you all so much for the letters!!  They are ALL so so fun to read!!!  I really appreciate them!!!

They hold mail right before transfers and then give them their mail at transfers so it is always nice to get several letters on transfer day.

Keep working hard!!!  Look for the chance to share this great message!  You will be able to share your joy about the gospel if you listen to the spirit!  Stay Strong!!  I love you all so much!!  Thank you for EVERYTHING!

Love,
Sister North  :)

Hey Everyone!!!

A treat from Sister Winn's mom in the package she got.
Thanks Sister Winn!
So I am sure you are wondering what my subject line means so I guess I will tell you.  So on Saturday we had about oh six minutes until personal study time and I had been writing in my journal and then noticed that I should finish getting ready so I can study right at eight.  Well as I went to do this I hear a beep from our CO thing, so I stop and I'm like uh....What the!?!  Well needless to say we worried for no reason because the battery was just low.  So that was a fun not so fun morning.  We have a new battery and everything is awesome!!  haha  :)

Wonder if they took any action other than changing the battery?

So first off today is Sister Winn's Birthday!!!  So shout out to her!!  :)  It has been a pretty grand day!  :)

Another week has come and gone and how great the Joy!!  This coming week is pretty solid!!  It is so great the more we learn the better our companionship, the better our weekly planning becomes!!  And the better our weeks become!!!  The Lord sure is helping us!!

Poof the power just went off....but it just came back on...

A yummy basket of goodness left for us from a ward member!  Much appreciated!  We love treats.

We appreciate being thought about and supported so much from our ward family!

So one of the highlights from this week is we had a lesson with K**** (15 years old) and we usually have our lessons on the front porch.  This week we were invited in!!  Her mom E**** told us how she doesn't usually let people in their house unless she trust them.  So it was like YES!!  We invited her to join and she was like okay, I will in a minute or something like that.  But she really did finish up what she was doing and join us!  It was super awesome!!  We had planned to go over the second half of the Plan of Salvation but we ended up talking about the Book of Mormon and telling E**** (8 year old brother) what it is and talked about a few of the pictures and that was about it for him.  He really liked being a part of the conversation though.  We ended up teaching the entire Plan of Salvation and we had K**** help us.  We were hoping to put K**** on date for baptism but plans changed.  The lesson was more focused on helping her mom understand.  I think this was really good and it was great to have K**** help us.  She is such a smart girl.  The Lord is preparing his Children!

We had splits.  Here are the four of us.
Sister Lewis, McCarry, Winn, and North
We taught M**** this week and it was the BEST lesson we have ever had with her!!  She did all of her reading AND started reading an old commitment that we left with her.  She didn't quite finish it but we were floored that she did so much and were so excited!!  We met at the kitchen table instead of the living room and it was a better setting for us to talk to her and her hear us too.  She is such a sweet lady.  We also taught the entire Plan of Salvation.  We taught it to her before but this time was so much better and she asked questions and I think we tried to make sure that we were focusing more on her needs.  Being a missionary sure is such a learning process!  In Everything!!  We are super excited about her and hoping that she comes to the ward Halloween party.  We have invited her to church and she told us no the week before.  This week she was open to coming to the Halloween Party on Friday so we are praying that she will be able to come and meet some people so that she would feel more comfortable with coming to church.

Yesterday we had the Primary program which was so amazing!!!  I was really bummed we didn't have any investigators there to witness the great spirit in these young children!!  It was so sweet to hear two eight year old kids who have been baptized recently share their story about their special day!  How powerful a child can be!!    It was a good reminder that we need to be like a child and have the sweet spirit that can help bring others closer to our Savior!!!

It really has been such a great week!  We were bummed to have some appointments fall through but we made the most of it.

This week we had two experiences of a guy in a car coming up to us which were interesting.

The first one asked if he could do anything for us.  We of course got excited but needless to say he was a tad bit rude to us and then drove off.

The second one was when we were going to the office of our apartment to get Sister Winn's package and this guy stops us and was like, Hey are you guys church people?  We talked to him and his friend in the care for a few minutes.  It was great!  We were hoping that he would be at church but he wasn't.  Both of these happened within a few hours of each other.

It is interesting, people do notice that we are people of God and they want to help us.  It is just sad that they don't always want to hear this amazing message that will change their lives forever!!!

Things here are going well.  We are always trying to improve and do better!!  The Lord is helping us everywhere we go!!

Thank you so much for all of your support!!!  This week has been so nice to hear from so many of my favorite people!!!  Thank you so much for your letters and prayers!!!

Letters this week!!!
- Dad
- Daniel and Jennifer Holden
- Kary (My awesome Snow Blaster)  :D
- Marissa L.
- Elder Krogh
- Grandma North

Once again thank you for the letters!!  It is so fun to hear how everyone at home is doing!!!  :D  Keep them coming!!  I promise that I will write you back!!!  :D

Love,
Sister North  :D

Amber needed her facebook password sent to her.  When they leave on their missions they receive a special mission e-mail account and we take over their personal e-mail's and facebook stuff.  The LDS church is starting to use technology more and more with their missionaries.  You can read an article about it here...
http://ldsmobile.net/lds-missionaries-turn-technology/
Not all the missions have these technologies but they are starting to be implemented in more and more missions.  The missionaries are to use the technology for teaching the gospel not staying connected with home.  So they are still not allowed to just chat with family but if there is anyone from their friend list that is wanting to hear the gospel discussions they can teach them.  So it is pretty neat to be a part of all these changes and exciting to see how it changes missionary work.  She said that the Zone leaders and Sister Missionary Trainers have been on Facebook for about two weeks not and the rest of her mission is getting started with it this week.  More info as we get it!

Don't forget to write her, she loves mail.

So this week was full of meetings and awesomeness!!!  :D

We had a New Missionary Training meeting which out of the about 160 missionaries in our mission 120 were there!  Super crazy!!! and Awesome!!!  What is funny about this is in some cases I am still a new missionary but because I am training I am not always considered a new missionary.  It is just a little weird!  But fun!  We learned a lot, like always trying and bearing testimony about the Restoration with anyone and everyone when you share something with them!

We had an awesome Zone Training/conference (not sure what to call it) and I sang, "Come Thou Fount and Sister Winn played the Piano.  It went well and the spirit was strong.  We are moving the work forward and the Lord is sure helping us!!  :)

We had a lesson with M**** this week, which went really well!  We talked about receiving answers through the scriptures and he said when he comes to know these things are true that he will be baptized.  The spirit was so strong and it was just so awesome!!

Something that is pretty crazy is we have THREE new investigators!  But, two of them happen to be in the Gurnee 1st ward so the Elders there will be taking them over!  One of them is a daughter of a lady that we have been teaching and she came to church with us on Sunday!  She had a ton of questions and said that it was long but she seemed to enjoy it.

The 2nd one we were going to go see a less active and we ran into this guy L****.  At first he kind of gave us the cold shoulder but then started talking to us and we were able to get his information.  Well we met with him Sunday night and we are driving there with one of our ward members and then I am like, "Oh no we are going out of our area."  So I called our District Leader to tell him, "Hey we are going to go teach this lesson."  The lesson was awesome!  We talked about the Restoration and L**** said that he would read the Book of Mormon and pray about it.  The spirit was so strong.  L**** might come to church but it was a soft commitment.  We are meeting with him next week and handing him off to the Elders.  When we asked him to pray about the Book of Mormon and read it he was like, "I got nothing to loose, and I like reading."  He is super awesome!!  I'm looking forward to hearing how he does!  Needless to say I was rather bummed to find out that he lives out of our area but I am still happy that we found him so the can hear this great message!!  :)

http://www.mormonnewsroom.org/article/restoration

Well we had exchanges yesterday and I left my area.  It was awesome!  We taught two lessons.  One was with a Mongolian girl and she is learning English so that was interesting because we had to teach in super simple words that she knew.  The spirit was still there and she wants to keep learning.

Sister Lewis, Sister McCarey, Sister Winn, and Me
Then we taught this guy C**** the Plan of Salvation and he asked so many awesome questions.  We were able to clear up his concerns.  It was the best!!  He said he would be baptized if he found out this is right!  It was the BEST!!!  :)  Again the spirit was super strong!  :D

http://www.lds.org/bc/content/shared/content/english/pdf/language-materials/36950_eng.pdf?lang=eng

Oh super awesome!!  On Saturday our investigator K**** said that we could call her at 10am and see if she was able to come to church.  We called her and it went straight to voice mail.  I was super bummed.  Then at 10:30 she called us and said that she wanted to come!  She just needed a ride.  Needless to say she was at church and it was the best!!!  :D

hmmm..last week for P-day we went thrifting.  Pretty much it was the best!!  I got some new clothes  :)  That was fun.  :)

It has been a good week!  We have been trying our best and working hard!
I'm pretty cool with that Tank  ;)  haha

I love you all!!!

Thank you for all of the support you give me!!  :D

Have a GREAT week!!

Love,
Sister North :D

Or rather Happy Birthday to Bryen and Jered on Friday, their birthday is on the 11th.  :)

This week has been SUPER awesome and very productive!!  At times we didn't feel like we were doing good, until the end of the day when we looked back.  We were able to meet a lot of our goals this week so that was really awesome!!  Sister Winn and I are working hard and learn more and more everyday how to become better!  She is awesome and a great example to me!  :)

This week I got letters from:
- Grandma Mary (It was a great surprise!)
- My Momma!  Thanks for the encouragement!

Now everyone else!  Feel free to write me!!  I promise I WILL write you back!!  Just ask everyone else!  ;)

A ton happened this week!!

First off can I say CONFERENCE was AMAZING!!!  It is such a great time to be reminded and learn how you can do better in your life!  I love how you can just feel the love they have for all of us!  It is wonderful and they are truly Men of God!  :)  Being a missionary I was reminded how everyone around the world is praying for me, it is so nice and brings peace to know that I have so much support from people I know and people that I do not know.  It is very comforting!  :)

Okay!  I don't even know where to start!!!

The first one is P****!  We were trying to find a less active member and it turns out she moved but we started talking to P****.  He said we could come back.  So we came back and here is when the.....

Funny Story Begins!!

So we came back to teach P****, and he has a cat named T***.  Well we got there and we were talking to him and he kept his foot in the door.  (I thought this was a little weird but it was cool)  He kept making sure that T*** the cat wouldn't get out.  Needless to say we were talking and T*** got out.  Next thing we know P**** gets T*** and was like oh crap! ....He is like I think the door is locked...well it turns out the door is locked.  Here we are just trying not to laugh that this just happened....well it gets better!

He doesn't have a key so we walk with him to the office, he is holding T***, has no shoes on and there are three girls walking with him.  (us Sisters and a member)  We were able to talk, we got a key to open his apartment and we talk about the Book of Mormon and are meeting with him this week.  I know it doesn't seem as funny reading it but put yourself in our shoes!  It was pretty great!

Then we have I****!  Super cool story with her!  She is actually our neighbor and last week we had about an hour and it was already dark.  We went to go do a few different things but nothing was feeling right.  So then we had about a half an hour until we said we would have dinner (we decided to have dinner late) and we came to the conclusion to head back to the apartment.  Well we walk in and I was like lets go see our neighbor so we did.  Turns out that she was home and we talked about the church and what we do and she was super interested.

That was a really cool experience for me and strengthened my testimony of listening to the Spirit.  I kept feeling like everywhere we would try to go just didn't feel right, but we didn't want to just go back to the apartment, we wanted to keep working.  Then we found out why nothing felt right, the Lord wanted us to go back.  We ended up not having a dinner time but it was so worth it being able to talk to her!

We met with her this past week and taught her some more and she just loves everything!!  She even came to the Saturday afternoon session of conference!  She said she really enjoyed it and took a lot of notes!  We talked about it after and answered some questions.  She is super awesome and sweet!  :)  Something that was annoying was it was SUPER rainy and it made the conference broadcast go in and out as we watched it at the church.  So very annoying!  I was like of course it doesn't work right when we have an investigator here.  It was pretty lame.  It was still an awesome conference though.

She made us some yummy muffins yesterday!  We are looking forward to teaching her more@  :)

C**** and M**** came to three of the four session of conference!!  It was SUPER GREAT!!  we also had a lesson with M**** last night about prayer and our ward mission leader came with us.  It went amazing! We talked about what we liked about conference and even though he was in and out with his daughter he still got a lot out of it!  So that was cool!  When we taught him K**** was asleep so that helped have an amazing lesson!!  We are meeting with him next week and he is also coming to church!  They are doing great!

So like I said it was rainy Saturday and we got drenched!  It was fun though!  What is funny is we still went to see some people and they gave us some weird looks because we were out in the rain.

We ended up being able to talk to this guy J**** and bring him some comfort into his life.  We weren't able to get his information but we are hoping that he will call us.  He is really having a hard time.

We had to get our car checked out and get an oil change and the entire time we were there we talked to this Jehovah's witness lady.  Needless to say it was interesting but it didn't really go anywhere.  She was super nice but didn't have her heart open to really listen to what we were saying.  Every time we would testify or talk about the church or Book of Mormon I could feel the spirit.

There are miracles everywhere!  Look for those unseen opportunities!  They are everywhere!!

I love you all so much!!!

Have a GREAT week!!! Until next time!

Love,
Sister Amber North :)

Conference is COMING!!!!!

Our group from our trip to the lighthouse
and Lake Michigan.
Hey Everyone!!!!

How are you all!!??!!!  I am so excited to e-mail today!  IT is always fun to let you know what I have been up to, hopefully I'll be able to make a little sense and remember what happened this week.  :)

First off thank you for writing me,
- Janelle Sanchez
- Grandma Mary
- Mom - Thank you for sending the GPS.  I'll send the one I have soon, it is SO nice to have one that is working!!  I was weirded out that the fruit snack package changed!  HAHA But I loved the package!!  :)
Amber loves the Black Forest Fruit Snacks.  I buy them at Smith's.  I went to get them and couldn't find them where I normal do.  Looked and looked and finally found them but almost missed them because they changed their packaging.
- Megan West

I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to hear from all of you so please write me!!  It is always so fun!!!

Yep I love mail!  Can't wait to hear form you!!  I promise I will WRITE you back too!!  :)

So this week has been great!!  I really don't even know where to begin...

Me, Janet, and Megan.
Let's see, Well Saturday we had the relief Society broadcast at the Sake Center and man was it so powerful and amazing!!!  It just makes me even more excited about General Conference coming this weekend!!  WOOT WOOT!!!  It is going to be awesome!!!  I also had the chance to meet Janet Witt and her daughter Megan, so that was really cool!

Every year before the October General Conference of the LDS church there is a special Relief Society Conference for the women.  You can check out the meeting here http://www.lds.org/broadcasts/archive/general-relief-society-meeting/2013/09?cid=HPTH091213087&lang=eng

Janet Witt is Jed's cousin so Amber's second cousin and she lives in Illinois.  We are so happy they go to see each other.  Mission rules don't allow for just visiting family even if you haven't ever met them before but since they are in the same area and attended the conference at the same location they were able to meet and take a pictures together.

General Conference of the LDS Church is held every six months where we are given current instruction for our day and time.  You can watch conference live online here  http://www.lds.org/general-conference

Oh Mom, Charnelle says thank you for your present and note, she loved it!  :)

Charnelle is the young woman that was recently baptized and I sent her a little note and a CD.

K****, me, and Sister Winn.
Check out my new purple and black shoes!
So this week we got to see K**** a lot!  But sadly she wasn't at church.  :(  We have been teaching her and she came to Mutual on Wednesday and they were doing a service project at the park so we got to go and help them too.  She seemed to enjoy it.  We also met with her on Friday but she left to go get food with her dad.  Her mom said that she would be like fifteen minutes and I asked if it was ok if we waited there.  We ended up being able to talk to her mom for about a half an hour which was great!  I think it helped build some trust with her mom to know who her daughter has been meeting with.  Hopefully we will get to have her sit in on a lesson soon.  I also played a little soccer with E****, K****'s eight year old brother.  So that was fun.  When K**** reads what we leave her she gets so much out of it, it is so awesome!!  :)  We are meeting with her tomorrow.  :)  She is great!  I love her!  :)

We also taught M**** this week and we talked a lot about the Book of Mormon and we were about done with our lesson and going to leave soon when her daughter came in and we ended up having another lesson with her about the Plan of Salvation.  We were able to clear up some questions she had.  We are hopefully going to meet with her this week too.  I think she lives in the Gurnee 1st ward though so we might not be teaching her but we will find out what is going to happen this week.  One of the ward members is going to come with us to M****'s lesson this week.  That will be great!  We love having ward members at lessons!  :)

Strange sign we found while out tracting.
We visited with a less active in the ward Sister F****, she is so awesome!  She lost her husband this summer so that has been hard on her.  We talked about some scriptures and we ended up helping her get the Book of Mormon on her Kindle so that she can listen to it.  We are hoping that we will be able to see her this week, and we also are hoping that we can watch some of conference with her.  That would be GREAT!!!

hmmm...What else, I know there is more but it is hard to remember hahha  :)

Shout out to Jace Krogh on having the great opportunity to sing with Josh Groban in a few weeks!!  That is SO COOL!!!  We listen to Josh Groban a lot and I love him!  I am kind of jealous that he gets to sing with him, no going to lie, but that is super awesome!!  Hope the Krogh family is doing great!  Well I hope everyone is for that matter.

Tell Ben and Jacquelle that I love them, I also love the picture of cute baby Jimmy.

I am so grateful for the gospel and knowing that families are forever!  What a great comfort this has brought in my life.  It is always hard to see people in pain as they loose a loved one and all we can do is be there for one another.  Knowing that God is also on our side bring so much joy.  He knows what we are feeling everyday.  Life is hard but to have someone to talk to about it all helps.  This gospel is true.  The church is trued and I know it and I love it!  With having the knowledge of the Gospel and the truths that it brings we can conqueror anything.

Oh man I love how Mikel got asked to the girls pref dance!  That is great!  How is he going to answer her back?  Hey Mook you should write me a letter and tell me all your adventures about life...dating...driving my car...school...Yep write me bro!
I'm Super Woman!!!
So last P-day we were at Walmart and we saw these footie PJ's.
We had to try them on.  They even have a cool cape on the back!!
I tried on this one and Sister Winn tried on Batman.
It was fun!  We are silly!  Reminded me of something I would
do with my roomies.  HAHHA

Questions from Mom:

1.  Did you have any investigators with you at the broadcast?  Sadly no, but it was super great!!  :D

2.  So guys trade ties out on their mission, is there anything that Sister Missionaries trade?  Hmmm...good question.  Still haven't figured that one out.  Hahha I don't know I feel like we share a lot of things, we could exchange uh scarfs!  HAHA  Something that is cool that we have out here on the mission that we do is we have a transfer journal.  It is kind of like a yearbook.  People write in it when you leave the area or they leave the area so that is cool.  A few people have written in mine.  :)

3.  The craziest thing that happened this week, that is a good one.  I'd have to say...humm.. oh hahah Okay I got it!  So this week we had two dinners in a row.  One was set up and the other we called a ward member because we wanted to share a message with them and when we got there we found out that they were eating.  We had yummy tacos.  I only had one so that I could eat at our next "dinner" appointment.  HAHAHA  But it all went well and yummy but man it was super funny!  Sister Winn I don't think thought it was as funny as I did but it was a really good bonding moment and something we won't forget.  Nothing too crazy this week.

4.  Training and being a Mommy, things are great now.  The first week was really hard but Sister Winn is awesome and we have become really good friend and are learning how to really work together as one with God.  That is really important that we work together.  Working together is what helps bring the spirit.

5.  Where in Texas is your companion from?  Dallas area or Rowlett

6.  What did she study at BYU?  Dietetics

Okay so one of my favorite things I read this week is:
Alma 48!!!  It is such an Awesome chapter and Moroni is amazing!!!  He pretty much is a Boss!  I love verse 17!

https://www.lds.org/scriptures/bofm/alma/48

verse 17 reads:
17 Yea, verily, verily I say unto you, if all men had been, and were, and ever would be, like unto aMoroni, behold, the very powers of hell would have been shaken forever; yea, the bdevilwould never have power over the hearts of the children of men.

Well Everyone I hope you are all doing great!!  I love you all and I hope to hear from you soon!!!  Keep working hard and let the Holidays begin...Can't believe tomorrow is October!!!!  :)

Love Always,
Sister North  :)
Just me being silly!
